Negotiation Scripts: The Exact Words That Earn You 40% More Per Brand Deal

Every brand opens a negotiation below their actual budget. Knowing this changes every conversation you’ll ever have.

When a brand opens a partnership discussion with a budget figure, that figure is almost never their maximum. It is their opening position — chosen because most creators accept it without question, allowing the brand to retain the remaining budget unspent. Creators who understand this earn 30–50% more per deal for the same work.

The negotiation doesn't require aggression. It requires three specific, professional scripts deployed at the right moments:

Script 1 — Responding to a below-rate offer: "Thank you — I'd genuinely love to work together on this. For a campaign of this scope, my standard rate is [your rate]. If budget is a constraint, I'm happy to discuss what a revised package might look like. What flexibility do you have on your end?" You've stated your rate. Offered a path forward. Handed the conversation back to them before making any concession. This framing alone consistently produces better outcomes than accepting the initial offer.

Script 2 — When asked your rates before you've got enough information: "For campaigns of this type, packages start at [your floor rate] and scale depending on deliverables, exclusivity, and usage rights. To give you a precise quote, could you share the campaign objectives and deliverables you have in mind?" You've given a floor — never a ceiling. And you've gathered the information needed to price accurately.

Script 3 — Adding usage rights when brands mention paid advertising: "I noticed you've mentioned using the content in paid amplification — usage rights for paid advertising channels are priced separately from the organic social rate. Standard industry practice is [2–3× base rate] for 6-month digital paid rights. I'm happy to build this into the revised package."

Three scripts. Used consistently. The financial difference over a year of brand partnerships is significant.
