The Content Quality Checklist: 10 Non-Negotiables Every Post Must Clear Before Publishing

Before you publish, run this checklist. Every item that fails is revenue you’re leaving on the table.

Most creators evaluate their content's quality by how they feel about it — a fundamentally unreliable metric because feelings about one's own work are consistently miscalibrated. You are simultaneously too close to judge it accurately and too emotionally invested to evaluate it objectively.

The alternative is a specific, objective checklist of criteria that your content either meets or doesn't — making quality evaluation reproducible, consistent, and improvable over time.

1. Does the first 3 seconds interrupt, intrigue, and identify your specific audience? If all three are not present, the hook needs rewriting.

2. Is there a specific promise made in the first 10% of the content? Without a clear "this is what you'll get from watching this," completion rates suffer.

3. Are captions present and accurate? Non-negotiable. 85% of social video is initially watched without sound.

4. Has every pause, filler, and false start been cut? Review at 1.5× speed specifically to catch these.

5. Is the colour grade applied consistently with your other content? Visual brand consistency is recognition. Recognition is trust. Trust converts.

6. Does the content deliver specifically and completely on its opening promise? The revelation must be worth the investment of attention.

7. Is there exactly one CTA, and is it specific? "Follow for more tips" is vague. "Follow because I'm posting the exact spreadsheet I used on Thursday" is specific.

8. Does the caption add value beyond describing the video? Good captions are standalone content, not descriptions.

9. Is there a specific question at the end to drive comments? Generic questions produce no comments. Specific questions produce debate and engagement.

10. If this content never performed algorithmically, would you still be proud to have made it? If yes — publish. If no — identify what's wrong and fix it.
