Interrupt: Break the viewer's scrolling pattern with something unexpected, surprising, or immediately arresting. A startling claim. A counterintuitive opening. Starting mid-action rather than at the beginning. The interrupt doesn't need to be dramatic — it needs to be different from the ambient content surrounding it in a feed.
Intrigue: Create a question in the viewer's mind that only the rest of the content can answer. The brain has a documented discomfort response to open, unanswered questions — it experiences genuine tension that drives continued engagement to achieve resolution. Your intrigue element is the bait. The content is the hook.
Identify: Make the specific viewer this content is designed for feel that it was made specifically for them. The more precisely your hook names their exact situation, their exact frustration, or their exact aspiration, the more powerfully it stops their scroll. Broad identification feels like content for everyone. Specific identification feels like content for me — and that "for me" feeling is the most powerful scroll-stopping trigger available.
